Well I’m back after a 7 day break , I hope I wasn’t missed too much!

For those of you that may not have read it in the paper, one of our well respected and long serving members, Jack Laver passed away on the 3rd October. The Committee wishes Sue Shea and extended family,  their sincere condolences.

In the last couple of weeks, we’ve had an influx of new members. So if you see someone a little lost and unsure please make yourself known to them and  offer them a helping hand.

Riverside Lions Club are holding a charity Golf Day on Friday 17th November here at the RGC. The money raised will go towards supporting  2 year old, Arthur Long (Terry Pitt’s grandson)  who has recently become a double amputee after contracting meningococcal.

It’s a 4 ball ambrose, 10.15 for 11am shotgun start. If you would like to enter, call David Vautin on 0418 136686, Len Healey on 0408 139144 or Mark Brown on 0467 002122 or entry forms available at the club. Don’t worry if you can’t get a team together as this can be arranged.

Please support this worthwhile cause.

You may or may not be aware that the roof on our function centre is now 55 years old. It’s leaking in places because of extensive rusting and therefore urgently needs replacing.

We also want to install solar panels on the function centre roof to help in the fight against global warming and to reduce our electricity overheads, but we can’t do that until the roof is renewed. The plan at the moment is to install 150 panels which will save us on average about $13,000 dollars per year in electricity costs.

Being centrally located in the Riverside area with some of the best views in Launceston, our Function area, (Freeland Room), is used by over 8,000 people during the course of the year. A great venue option for our local community.

To that end we have applied to the Tasmanian Community Fund for a grant to do both simultaneously. The TCF is an arm of government that distributes monies in the form of grants to community organisations that apply. The grants are awarded on the basis of merit as adjudged by the TCF Board biannually.

I’d like to thank Denis Garland for the time and effort in putting the application together over many weeks and Justin Flint from CNW Electrical Wholesale & Energy Solutions for his expert advice and information on solar panels. The guys out there made it all very easy.

How exciting!! You may have noticed work on the 14th tee-bed has started, Sam and course team will work hard to get it all  finished ASAP.

Just on the course, we need your help!!! With a lot of visitors on our course this time of the year and with  the guys flat out with mowing and the above, we urgently need  small jobs done  around the place.

-whipper snipping, cleaning up of the car park and around the clubhouse and practice areas. So if you have a couple of  hours to spare on Sunday 29th Oct, we’re having a bit of a clean-up. Start time: 9am, bring your own rakes, whipper snippers, blowers.

Please RSVP to me if you’re able to help.

Winner last week was none other than our debonair Captain: Mark Poulson

Once we have had our first year we will do a review of the structure and awards,  just in case some of the trophy’s don’t align with the new format.
